QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Business environment 

The Loyalty division looks after the development of customer Loyalty solutions for airlines, a key area of growth for Amadeus. What is a loyalty program? The purpose of a loyalty program is to attract and retain customers (giving the best customers perks such as points, upgrades, lounge access, etc.) that will make them ‘loyal’ to the airline brand. What the customer doesn’t see is that, behind the scenes, a loyalty program is also a very efficient monetization platform for the airline. The same concept is applied in different industries (for instance Google or Facebook): attract the customer with “free” benefits and then get the money back by selling customer influence/incentive capacity to whoever wants to sell products or services to the program members! Today, this is a very profitable business. Loyalty point transactions represent more than 50% of total airline ancillary revenues and major programs are larger than the airlines who initiated them. This is thanks to the leverage effect of non-air partners (hotels, banks, retailers, oil companies, etc.) who are ready to pay premium commissions to get a privileged commercial access to one of the most valuable customer bases in the world: the Frequent Flyers! With 40+ customers on our current system, Amadeus is a key player in this industry. To sustain the growth and catch the largest airlines, we are now developing a brand-new platform with latest Altea standards. This is a complete redesign, not iso-functional, to meet the new requirements of the most demanding programs. This position is based in Istanbul. Purpose Provide consultancy services to Amadeus customers to give them a competitive advantage finding insights previously hidden within their Loyalty data. Design & develop custom business intelligence solutions combining functional knowledge and business expertise with the best usage of advanced machine learning techniques. Blend math, algorithms, and an understanding of human behavior with the ability to hack systems together to develop data-driven solutions to difficult business challenges and to influence business decisions. 

 Key accountabilities 

  • Solve complex business problems by employing machine learning, statistical analysis, pattern recognition and high-performance computing techniques
  • Collect and manage large data sets (structured/unstructured) to perform complex data analysis 
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets
  •  Identify patterns within data and create data classification clusters 
  • Transform data into insights to identify & quantify business opportunities
  •  Create and run simulations to validate hypotheses and assess business outcomes
  •  Communicate and translate complicated results & their implications to business stakeholders, leveraging strong written and verbal communication skills in English Build a service offering consulting and custom solutions
  • Manipulate and analyze complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources using a variety of tools and data analysis techniques 
  • Identify data sources, both internal and external to Amadeus, and transform them into actionable insights that support fact-based decision making
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experience, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes Generate innovative solutions
  • Actively participate to a community of practice for data scientists
  • Have the capacity to adapt to our fast-paced environment 

Education 

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Math, Stats, or an analytics-oriented multidisciplinary domain 

 Relevant Work Experience 

5+ years of relevant work experience in one or more of the following areas is an advantage: 

  • Analytical Models/Methods, Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning and Optimization Programming Languages: Python, R, Java, Scala, JavaScript
  • Data Storage: Oracle, Couchbase, other NoSQL databases • Big Data Technologies: Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Spark, Kafka
  • Data Visualization: Qlik, Tableau, D3.js • Travel sector experience is a plus.
